The departments that make up public safety are the Police, Fire and Ambulance Corps. These men and women are a very important branch that makes the Borough of Allendale work as a whole.
The Allendale Police Department is located at 290 Franklin Turnpike. The Police provide first response to all medical, fire, and rescue emergencies. In addition to traffic control, crime investigation, etc. Common service calls answered by patrol officers involve investigation of all motor vehicle accidents, domestic and wild animal complaints, vacant house checks, assisting disabled and locked out motorists, and assisting residents with burglar alarm and physical security concerns. Further, the Police also respond to domestic violence complaints.
Police headquarters is staffed 24 hours per day, dispatching all Borough emergency services. An in-house computer system maintains emergency locations and contact information on all residential and business properties, and cross-references emergency keys that residents may store at headquarters. Communication Officer's phones are equipped to trace phone numbers to addresses and accept calls from the deaf (T.D.D.). A driveway mounted intercom system allows the physically challenged direct access to emergency personnel. A referral sourcebook is maintained by desk staff, connecting those in need with free shelter, counseling, psychiatric screening, and domestic violence relief.
Staff members, by appointment, provide various free services, including home security checks, bicycle registration and safety products, traffic safety/seat belt information, group tours of headquarters, K-9 demonstrations, and public speaking engagements. If you are interested in any of these services please give police headquarters a call and the Communication Officer will be willing to transfer your call to the right officer.
The Allendale Volunteer Fire Department is staffed by some of your fellow neighbors. The Fire Department consists of one department located on Erie Plaza, right across the street from the Allendale train station.
The Allendale Fire Department is headed by Chief Dave Walters. Serving as Assistant Chief is Dave Baez.
The Fire Department is always looking for new members. If you are interested in becoming a firefighter please stop by the fire house on any Thursday night around 7:30pm. The members would discuss your involvement and provide you an application. You can also call the fire house at (201)934-7015.
For over 60 years, the Allendale Ambulance Corps has been meeting the needs of the residents of Allendale and Saddle River by functioning as an emergency medical service. They also provide services such as transportations for convalescents, stand-by coverage at community events, respond to fire scenes, free temporary use of home care supplies, instruction in first aid and CPR for all ages. To join this volunteer organization, please stop by the Police Station for an application or call Captain Cathy Baum at (201)236-1960 or Daryl D'Amore at (201) 825-1934 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM.
